A UNITED KINGDOM – in theatres March 30

A UNITED KINGDOM is based on the extraordinary true-life romance between Sir Seretse Khama and his wife Ruth Williams Khama. In 1947, the king of Bechuanaland (present-day Botswana), Seretse Khama fell in love with the English clerk Ruth Williams. Their eventual marriage was opposed not only by both their families but also by the British and South African governments. Nontheless, Ruth and Seretse defied their families’ wishes and resisted apartheid and the British Empire. Their love strong enough to overcome any obstacle, they changed a nation’s faith and inspired millions.

Switching between a 1940s London and the pitoresque plains of Botswana, director Amma Asante (BELLE) tells a true and awe-inspiring story, featuring the incredible David Oyelowo (SELMA) and Rosamund Pike (GONE GIRL).
