Rachel Launay
Referring to recent research carried out in 2016 by the British Council, Rachel will look at what motivates German millennials (aged 18-34) to engage with the UK, comparing two phases of research completed first of all before and secondly after the referendum vote on 23 June 2016. She will then explore what this could mean for culture and education activity and partnerships between the UK and Germany and how this will impact on the role of the British Council in Germany and Europe in the next 5 years.
The ties between Britain and Germany have been close for many years. The two nations are linked by strong bonds of culture and friendship. But what will these connections look like after Brexit? Rachel Launay, British Council Country Director, Germany, looks at the future of the Anglo-German relationship
Rachel Launay is Country Director, British Council Germany since 2014 and has worked in cultural relations for over 20 years. She is a trained teacher of English, teacher trainer and specializes in applied linguistics. She began her career in East Asia – Thailand, South Korea and Hong Kong before moving into academic management and broader cultural relations work in Portugal and then in London. She has worked closely with the foreign office both in London and now in Germany. She is passionate about language learning and has spoken French and German from a young age.
Rachel has a BA in French and German from East Anglia University, a Post Grad Diploma in Management from Leicester University and an MA in ELT and Applied Linguistics from Kings College London.
