John Curran
My lecture will look at both the life of Agatha Christie and her literary output of novels, short stories and stage plays. Access to her Notebooks gave me a unique insight into her creative process and I will discuss how she devised her plots. I will examine how her style changed over half a century of writing, how she came to dominate best-seller lists and why she is still popular today, long after most of her contemporaries have disappeared from the bookshelves.
Dr. John Curran is the author of Agatha Christie’s Secret Notebooks and Agatha Christie’s Murder in the Making. He worked with Britain’s National Trust during the renovation of Greenway House, Agatha Christie’s Devon home, and helped to set up the Christie Archive. He was awarded his PhD from Trinity College Dublin, where he lives.
