Biography:
John Sweeney is a distinguished investigative journalist and author with a career spanning over four decades. He
began his journalism journey at The Observer, where he worked for twelve years before joining the BBC in 2001. At the BBC, Sweeney became a prominent reporter for Panorama and Newsnight, covering wars, revolutions, and significant global events across 100 countries. His fearless reporting includes undercover investigations in Chechnya, Zimbabwe, and North Korea.
Throughout his career, Sweeney has received numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award, two Royal Television Society prizes, a Sony Gold award, the Paul Foot Award, and recognition as What The Papers Say Journalist of the Year. Notably, his investigative work contributed to the exoneration of individuals falsely accused of crimes, such as Sally Clark, Angela Cannings, and Donna Anthony. Sweeney has also authored several books, including „Killer in the Kremlin,“ a Sunday Times bestseller that examines Vladimir Putin’s rise to power. His podcast „Hunting Ghislaine,“ which delves into the life of Ghislaine Maxwell, has garnered critical acclaim and over a million listens. His latest, Murder In The Gulag, also published in German, is about how Putin had Alexei Navalny poisoned.
In 2022, Sweeney reported from Ukraine during the Battle of Kyiv, providing firsthand accounts of the conflict. His dedication to uncovering the truth and holding power to account underscores his commitment to the principles of investigative journalism.
