“The UK in 2024: a year of challenges and changes?”

8. Januar 2024 18:30

Dr. Edward Goodger

Edward Goodger will discuss the upcoming year in British politics, including the impend-ing general election that seems set to bring a change in government. He will examine the context of contemporary UK politics, emphasising how long has passed since we were last in a similar situation of such dramatic potential changes, and raising some potential scenarios which may unfold in 2024. This examination will also include polling and election survey data, and how these may offer indications for the outcome of that next election. Branching from this, he will then discuss what a change in power could look like, how it could influence future UK politics, and what impacts it may have on the UK’s relationship with the EU.

Edward is currently a lecturer of politics at the University of Manchester, having joined in February 2023.
Born in 1994 in Leicester, Edward previously graduated from Durham University (Tre-velyan College) with a PhD in politics, having been a member of the university’s Centre for Institutions and Political Behaviour.
In 2021, he submitted his PhD thesis entitled “Policy and Populism: Explaining Support for the Radical Left in Contemporary Western Democracies”, and has since gone on to be published in the Electoral Studies and Political Science Review journals.
